New brief out w/ @AngelaCrevar on community college baccalaureate programs. We show that these programs increase 1) the # of degrees earned by students, 2) chances students attend any form of higher ed, & 3) growth in the # of high-demand degrees earned.

(2/6) LaFortune @ppicNotes, @rothstein_jesse and @dwschanz study showed net gains of 0.12-0.24 standard deviations in student achievement per $1,000 per pupil per year. Gains were sustained for 10 years showing that adequacy funding does help raise student achievement.

(6/6) Policy makers take note- constituents want to know their tax $ is put to good use. Show how money matters to improve achievement with more evidence from @KiraboJackson D. Kreisman & M. Steinberg, especially for students of color and for those from low-income districts.

(5/6)When many of our students with the greatest need do not receive the resources they need, that translates to lower academic achievement. Providing increased spending results in higher achievement and greater opportunities for student success- A great return on investment!

(4/6) An event study Difference in Difference (DiD) research methodology was used. The dependent variable = student achievement, explanatory variable of interest = SFR. District level subject/grade/year were aggregated and then merged with district finance and demographic data.

(3/6) LaFortune’s study tracks 64 SFR events in 26 states (3,500 students per state) from 1990-2011. Data taken from: NCES-district finance; US Census- mean household income data; & NAEP achievement data were aggregated by district/year for 4&8th grade reading/math.
