11/ conclusion: landed in Canberra approx 12.15. About 2hrs45mins later than scheduled. On +side only 1hr45mins later than OG cancelled flight. But on the -side, wasted morn working the #Qantas system to even get the travel we’d paid for, rather than working on my actual work 🤷🏻♀️

10/ as we reboard, greet hostie with commiserations. Apparently she is now on board by herself 🤯 (2nd hostie sent home as delays exceeded her shift hours) Fully boarded now at 10.53. Later model Dash 8 is a bit roomier and we have climate control 😅. Only 1hr25mins late so far…

9/ at other gate there’s no service staff and only one hostie at check-in; may be spare seats but she can’t help. She calls for assistance. None arrives. As we wait, #Qantas opens boarding, late, for my ticketed flight. We run back to previous gate. Well on track for 1000 steps!

8/ flight info says boarding at 10.20 but that’s clearly not happening. PA announcements make it clear other flights to Canberra are leaving. Can we get on one? Hostie says if you have carry-on luggage only, head to the other gate and have a go. Sure!

7/ captain announces Canberra can’t take plane with broken comms. #Qantas are towing over a spare plane. But for some reason we all have to disembark and go back into the terminal. It’s now 10.15. To be continued.

6/ hosties turn off aircon and hand us all water. Engineer gives all clear to depart Mascot, but crew need to check Canberra ground staff can handle with the comms issue. So we wait. It’s now 10.05. Cancelled plane would have been taxiing right about now.

5/ wrong. It’s a Dash 8-300, 2nd smallest plane in fleet and looks ready to retire. Hosties are definitely harassed. We’re all boarded for 9.35 takeoff but there’s a problem with cockpit to ground comms. They bring an engineer on board at 9.45.

4/ Rebook on 9.35 flight. Great, commitment is at 1pm, will arrive on time. Hurriedly shower, grab usual travel bags, go. Everything smooth at the airport, bags only need to go through screening twice (not bad!). Board as expected at 9.15. All good, right? … right?

3/ Lovely but slightly harassed sounding man says I was rebooked on a flight some 3hrs earlier which by this time departed. Because I don’t sit up all night waiting for a cancellation (but probs should). Email unhelpfully sent to booking agent who was also asleep 🙄

2/ Awoke this morning to find 10.05 flight cancelled. #Qantas SMS sent at 6.26 (phone in sleep mode mutes to 6.30) says they will send info with rebooking info. Crickets. Qantas app hanging. So I call help line. Wade through about 6 layers of options to reach hold queue.
