Sheri died with the disease three years later. Greg and Patti decided they wanted to help find a way to end this disease. Through their company, they became a local sponsor for Walk to End Alzheimer’s and encouraged others to join them.

Her mother started to notice that Sheri would lose things. like her keys or her purse. After a visit to the emergency room and further testing, it became clear that Sheri—at the age of 57—had younger-onset Alzheimer’s.

Sheri loved to read, watch television, go on walks and dance. She worked at the same job for 17 years and loved her routine. In her 20s, Sheri participated in the Special Olympics in California, where she received a silver medal.

When Greg’s sister, Sheri, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he and his wife, Patti, didn’t have any experience with the disease. They were both surprised to learn how common Alzheimer’s is in people who have Down syndrome. 🧵

Last year, Laura rode solo in the Ride to End ALZ Minnesota to honor her grandma, crossing the finish line “in tears… full of pride, grief, gratitude, and purpose.” She raised over $1,500 and was overwhelmed by the financial and emotional support she received.

That year, Mah Jongg for Memories was born. It raised $30K in its first year. This year alone, the team has raised $233K (and counting) as a 2025 Silver National Team. And since its inception, the team has raised over $750K to support Alzheimer’s care, support and research. 💜

Earlier today, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved a $100 million increase in Alzheimer’s and dementia research at the NIH for the 2026 fiscal year. Thank you to our #ENDALZ advocates who helped grow support for these increases through sharing their powerful stories.
