Wonderful letter from @NISAU_UK - talented, ambitious, alumni who’ve committed to a UK education and contribute to our country 👏🏻👏🏻
It is absolutely clear the Graduate route is vital for our universities, international students & UK prosperity. @NISAU_UK requests PM @RishiSunak to make the right decision – keep it unchanged to ensure the UK remains a top destination for global talent. Our letter to the PM👇

excellent letter: they trust our country with their futures...and invest tens of thousands in their education. It is only reasonable that they would want some return on their investment. The only return they seek is the opportunity to gain meaningful work experience.

What makes this even more bizarre is the rush to have something to announce in response to outdated figures. Thursday's stats cover YE Dec 23, whereas govt reforms only came into effect in Jan (student dependant ban), March (care dependant ban) & April (salary thresholds).
"The foreign secretary has warned Rishi Sunak that universities will face job losses and even closure if he pushes ahead with curbs to graduate visas in an attempt to reduce migration." @thetimes story today ahead of Thursday's migration stats (£) https://t.co/yd5TXCEw0t

PM @RishiSunak, I urge you not to change the graduate visa. We must keep the two-year post-graduation work visa for international students. To change it would hugely damage our precious UK universities. @UKCISA @UUKIntl @APPGIS @RussellGroup @10DowningStreet

As the government looks set to scrap it, new research finds the total net benefit to the UK Exchequer of hosting Graduate Route visa holders in 2022/23 is estimated to be £70 million… disproving claims that the UK loses out financially.

It's difficult to believe that it has been two years since @TaithWales was launched. A lot to reflect on... We are grateful for all the wonderful exchanges that have taken place and we look forward to providing more opportunities for people across Wales ❤️🏴🌎
🎉 Taith – Two Years On 🎉As we mark the second year since the #Taith programme was launched, we are reflecting on all the programme has achieved so far, and enjoying the lovely images participants have shared from their experiences. @Addysg_Cymraeg

But you can't flip / switch into work unless you have completed your degree. Also worth pointing out that it was the current govt who designed & introduced the UK's points-based immigration system, including the Health and Care Visa (which was deliberately made more flexible).
The entire point of the piece I was quoting is that they are *not* even "doing a three year degree" but flipping into work within a year of arriving. And that significant numbers who get a visa to work in care are not actually doing so. All this undermines the system.

Feels like we're losing an argument we spent more than a decade winning: that we are amazingly fortunate to be such a popular destination for international students. Don't take it from me - listen to Sheffield businesses

🚨 So important for our Afghan Chevening alumni. Lord Cameron - “plans are in place” to bring the rest of the 1,500 Afghans eligible for relocation under the Foreign Office pathway to the UK. At severe risk but not forgotten. 🇦🇫 🇬🇧 https://t.co/2o3lZSaCnB

From today, the majority of foreign university students cannot bring family members to the UK. In 2024, we’re already delivering for the British people.
