“In thinking about #atlcitydesign there were certainly people who didn’t like that their neighborhood was going to change… but when change is inevitable, there’s so much we can do (with city design) to make that change work better for everyone” @ryangravel

“It was important that City Design is not another activity or pretty book. The first conversation I had with Tim was to create a process for our city to decide what it wants to be” -Terri Lee

A premise of City Design is that more people is always better than fewer. “As we aspire to grow, we need to think about what protections we can put in place so that people can prosper. I’ve seen the t-shirt that says “We Full” - we can be open to more people.”

“The city can’t stop growth. We wouldn’t want that anyway, housing prices would skyrocket. The question is how we would prepare for that growth. That’s what Atlanta City Design is all about”

“Atlanta is in demand. If we don’t find a way to embrace change, then the things we talk the most about of being difficult - housing affordability, mobility - will just get more difficult”

“It’s not just growth for growth’s sake. It’s how we can be a better city.” Specific to housing affordability, Atlanta City Design has proposals to address this.

“We kept talking about what makes Atlanta special and kept coming back to the idea of the beloved community. If you can’t afford to be here, then you can’t be a part of that (community).”

“We tend to think about the city that we have now. There are people who have already had to leave. The aspiration of the beloved community isn’t just to allow for growth, but to allow those people to move back.”

“Economic opportunity is at the top because it includes everything, including housing. This correlates to what kind of housing options and choice we have in the city. We don’t have as many options for people who need it.”
