30 years prior, in 1986, Jane attended the very same meeting and credited the conference as the catalyst to her pivot to activism. The American Society of Primatology and its members mourn the passing of the Dr. Jane Goodall. We thank her for her service.

These primates are disappearing rapidly due to deforestation and hunting on Idjwi Island, located in Lake Kivu, within the Virunga ecosystem. We're fighting back with reforestation, education, and awareness campaigns, but we can't do it alone.
