They called these seltzers Ecto Coolers but when they got popular started to fear lawsuits & changed it to Spekto Kooler & created that logo. These taste exactly like the boozy version of Ecto Cooler juice boxes from elementary school

The image suggests that the smartest and toughest—the cream of American youth—were competing on the gridiron as part of their development. *See Michael Oriard's "Reading FB" for more on how college football was depicted in its early days in newspapers and print media. 2/2

Nov. 1909: Century Magazine. Frank Leyendecker—one of the early 20th century's great illustrators—created this drawing of hard-nosed, highly skilled competitors battling for the goal line to accompany an essay by Walter Camp, the Father of American Football. 1/2

There's little new under the sun in coaching, it's mostly reorganizing received wisdom. I read John McKay's memoir from USC and he wrote that back in 1972 that Oregon St coach Dee Andros said his team's motto was G-A-T-A: Get After Their Ass. Here's the tunnel at Sanford Stadium

1998: Ricky Williams broke Tony Dorsett's 22-year-old NCAA rushing record with a lot of style at the Lone Star Showdown against Texas A&M. It was Thanksgiving week. Brent Musburger was on the call. And it was a huge moment. Who remembers watching it happen?

Unless the NCAA and colleges get an exemption or specific legislation out of Congress they're not going to be able to stop any of this market function for long. Back to court for more fun. This isn't as close to over as I think some thought it was . .

College leaders are in active negotiations with House attorneys over a major piece of the settlement: whether to permit traditional NIL collective deals. A decision may reshape enforcement and lead to a “softer cap,” Greg Sankey tells @YahooSports.

People are going to hate the 5+11 intensely if it ends up being installed. Cowardice will drive scheduling as teams white knuckle the conference schedule and rely on an aesthetically pleasing record to overcome a competitively watered-down schedule. B1G + SEC will gobble it up.

Drinkwitz stirred the drink with a lot of thoughts on the playoff and an 8/9-game SEC schedule. Basically, Drink likes the Big Ten-favored model of 4-4-2-2-1 automatic bids as a vehicle for involving more teams via play-in games.

Look at Drink coming into his own. He was legitimately funny at the podium, which is not always the case for him despite persistent effort. Buy Mizzou time?.

UCLA & USC shared the LA Memorial Coliseum from 1928-1982, when UCLA moved to the Rose Bowl. For a few years UCLA honored the olde ways & painted the end zones for both teams, like you see here in 1984. For the aficionados: Check out the Rose Bowl floor pre-renovation 👀

Service FB ended up being the greatest boost the sport ever got, priming the charge for the explosive growth of the 1920s, which included the construction of dozens of big, permanent stadiums, & the birth of the National Football League. See @KelloggFireman's "War Football". 2/2

A newspaper cartoon depicts WWI & CFB as “Great Little Pals". CFB was nearly cancelled in 1917 until the U.S. military—at the urging of Walter Camp—adopted the game as a training tool. The decision touched off a rapid spread of football wisdom across the country. 1/2

Call me nuts -- Im called worse every day -- but I think the Big12 has as good a quarterback play across the conference as anybody. Guys who are NFL prospects, guys who will get drafted, and certain guys who are just really good at the college level. (Josh Hoover, Sam Leavitt,.
