It's because the casual gamer has the techbro mindset of lineal progression, anything they personally dislike or fail to understand is a problem that needs to be solved
I don’t really see why people think turned based games need to “evolve” Does Chess need to “evolve” just because it’s turn based? Not saying new things shouldn’t be tried but it’s a proven timeless piece of game design. Plenty of old TB games hold up well today.
